New Instructor Candidates that have successfully completed both the Online Instructor Essentials Course and the Classroom portion of the Instructor Program must be successfully “Monitored” before receiving an American Heart Association Instructor Certification eCard. The purpose of Monitoring is to assure that the Instructor Candidate is ready to teach AHA certification classes independently maintaining AHA standards.
The American Heart Association requires that all New Instructor Candidates be successfully monitored by a Training Center Faculty (TCF) member within 6 calendar months from the day of the Classroom portion of the Instructor Course completion. The AHA does not provide a Grace Period after the 6 month date and if not completed, the Instructor Candidate must repeat the Instructor Classroom portion again. This will provide another 6 month monitoring cycle.
The Instructor Candidate is responsible for organizing the class in which they will be monitored and assure that they have all the resources to teach the class. This includes classroom space, AV equipment, Instructor material (Instructor Manual and Course Video), manikins and other required equipment for the class. The class may be an Initial or Renewal classroom course. Blended Learning Classes may not be used as Instructor Candidate Monitoring. The Instructor Candidate is also responsible for coordinating the date and time availability with the Training Center Faculty (TCF) member, who must attend the class.
